Avid have just announced the Pro Tools 12.8.2 software at AES 2017. This latest release includes major improvements and new functionality across the Pro Tools family, including Pro Tools | First, Pro Tools, and Pro Tools | HD. Pro Tools 12.8.2, is now available for free download for subscribers and users with an active upgrade plan.

New Features included in Pro Tools 12.8.2:

MIDI Enhancements - Create Music More Easily

Based on user requests (there's been a lot), Pro Tools features many new MIDI enhancements to help speed and ease your workflow. Quickly change Grid and Nudge sizes and Pencil tool commands using keystrokes. Record-enable, solo, and mute MIDI tracks right in the MIDI Editor. View chord names and notes as you play them to ensure input accuracy. Store and recall MIDI Editor lanes in window configurations. Constrain MIDI clips to edit selections while using the Smart Tool. And so much more.

Edit and Mix VR Audio (Pro Tools | HD only)

The demand for virtual reality content is on the rise. Now you can take advantage of its popularity and produce immersive full-sphere surround sound content—from start to finish—right in Pro Tools | HD. Easily edit and mix audio in a 3D space with support for first-, second-, and third-order Ambisonics formats across your Pro Tools tracks and busses. Then output and deliver content to the required format for playback.

Speed Up Dolby Atmos Tasks (Pro Tools | HD only)

With the new front/rear position knob link, you can easily control both parameters as one when writing panning automation from the Pro Tools interface or a control surface, with all subsequent automation being written following suit. You can also set up Pro Tools sessions in seconds based on the connected Dolby Atmos Renderer configuration. And repurpose existing pan automation data to instantly generate height automation.

Batch Rename Tracks and Clips in Pro Tools

Got tons of tracks and countless clips? Giving them all meaningful names is now a much faster and easier affair with Batch Rename. This powerful new feature enables you to rename batches of tracks or clips in a variety of ways, including find and replace, adding prefixes and/or suffixes, and applying various numbering conventions.

Scroll to Track

In Pro Tools 12.8.2 Scroll to Track has been improved, giving you the ability to identify a track by name, rather than a number, and scroll to it in the Edit or Mix Window.

Convert Pro Tools or Pro Tools | HD Session To Project (Pro Tools | First)

Got friends or colleagues who use Pro Tools? You can now collaborate and work on sessions created in Pro Tools or Pro Tools | HD by first converting them to a project format in Pro Tools | First. Simply open a session and use the Convert to Project dialog that pops up to save the file as a project in your cloud space.
